CEDARS Short Stay School

Design & Technology

Design and Technology at Cedars

Design and Technology at Cedars is an inspiring, practical and highly engaging subject that supports pupils to learn through hands-on, project-based experiences. Pupils are encouraged to use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, often linked directly to their own interests, needs and life skills.

Learning in Design and Technology is rooted in real-world contexts. Pupils work on meaningful projects that frequently contribute to the development, improvement and creation of new areas across the school site, helping them to see the value and impact of their work. These projects foster pride, ownership and a strong sense of achievement.

Through Design and Technology, pupils acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and practical skills, drawing on areas such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. They are supported to take appropriate risks, problem-solve, and develop resilience, becoming resourceful, innovative and confident learners.

Pupils also explore past and present designs and technologies, helping them to develop a critical understanding of how design shapes daily life and the wider world. High-quality Design and Technology education at Cedars plays a vital role in developing creativity, independence, employability skills and positive engagement with learning.
